Here are few pictures of the Local Marinas, Watts Bar Nuclear/Coal Power Plant, Watts Bar Dam Area, and Some Country Roads Spring City is a small town nestled in the rural Cumberland Mountains of Rhea County, Tennessee. Rhea County is not located along any major interstate, but it is easy to reach. And, once there, it’s well worth the trip! From Chattanooga, if you take I-24 to Highway 27 North, the drive through Hamilton County to Rhea County is beautiful. This is mountain wilderness country, with lakes, forests, rock formations, gorges, springs and waterfalls. Spring City is home to Watts Bar Lake/Watts Bar Dam, which is a 39,000-acre lake with 771 miles of beautiful, rustic shoreline. The lake has superb fishing, and also has swimming and other water sports, boating, camping and hiking. The Spring City Boat Dock & Marina has pontoon and fishing boat rentals, a tackle and bait shop, camper hookups and a full service restaurant. The Stinging Fork Pocket Wilderness, located five miles northwest of Spring City, and Twin Rocks Nature Trail, located about one mile northwest of Spring City, both have hiking trails with unusual rock formations, deep gorges, forests and waterfalls. A short drive from Spring City takes you to The Cumberland Trail, Rock City and Lookout Mountain, Ruby Falls, The Museum of Science and Energy in Oak Ridge and the Rugby Historic Center. >
![]() These spacious lakes form the mainstream of the Tennessee River as it begins its 650-mile journey to the Ohio River. Suited to any type of boat from sailboats to the larger cruisers, these lakes have attracted vacationers for over 45 years. Watts Bar Lake provides 783 miles of shoreline for fishing, boating, swimming, camping, hiking and skiing. Boat docks and ramps are numerous throughout Roane County as well as TVA and commercial campsites for year round pleasure. Area marinas provide 500 boat slips, large and small boat rentals, houseboats, cabins, and supplies. Watts Bar Lake unlimited coves and islands with natural sand beaches make an ideal lake for all water sports. It is fed by three major rivers and at least six large creeks. Anglers may choose from wide-open flats to narrow winding river channels in which to fish. There are plenty of jumbo crappie as well as lunker largemouth and small mouth bass and trophy stripers. The abundance of most types of fresh water fish will provide lasting memory for the avid fisherman. Here's a handy chart that may help you catch your limit! Smallmouth Bass - October through December. Bluegill (bream) - Summer. Willowfly (an insect used for fishing) - July. Crappie - Spring and fall. Catfish - June, July, August. June while spawning. White Bass - August, September. Striped bass (rockfish) - October, November, Moon Island. Thief Neck Island and below dam in spring and fall. Sauger - Below dam November through February.
